Azerbaijani banks increase reserves by almost 19 per cent in a year

The monetary base in Azerbaijan showed a steady increase in January-May 2013, and as of June 1 expanded amounting to 10.191 billion manat.

The monetary base in Azerbaijan showed a steady increase in January-May 2013, and as of June 1 amounted to 10.191 billion manat.

According to statistics from the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA), the monetary base increased by 20.5 per cent in annual terms. For comparison, the figure was 8.457 billion manat in the first five months of 2012.

According to the CBA, the monetary base in manat amounted to 10.113 billion manat in June 2013 compared to 8.373 billion manat as of June 1, 2012.

During the reporting period, the volume of money in circulation amounted to 9.608 billion manat, while on June 1, 2012 this figure was 7.971 billion manat.

In turn, bank reserves were equal to 558.6 million manat which is 18.8 per cent more than in late May 2012 (470.1 million manat).

The weight ratio of cash in circulation and the monetary base as of June 1, 2013 stood at 93.4 per cent, remaining unchanged in comparison with the amount as of June 1, 2012.

There are 43 banks in Azerbaijan.

The official exchange rate on July 5 is 0.7844 AZN / USD.
