An installation for the production of roofing materials has been launched in the city of Balkanabat, the administrative center of Turkmenistan’s Balkan Region, Trend reports referring to the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.

The construction was carried out by “Kuwwatly ussatlar”, a local private enterprise. The roof covering is mainly metallic and plastic in the form of gutters, replacing tiles and asbestos slates.

"At the initial stage, the manufacture of new products will make up 25,000-30,000 cubic meters per year, and, with the achievement of the design capacity, the volume of production for roofings will increase significantly," as stated in the article.

Lightweight rolled metal and locally produced plastic are used as raw materials, which reduces the prime cost for the production of building material.

Production of cement is the priority direction of the building materials industry in Turkmenistan. The country’s plants produce Portland cement, grouting and sulphate resistant cement. Other enterprises also contribute to the diversification of the national economy – particularly, the metallurgical and gas concrete plants located in the town of Owadandepe of Turkmenistan’s Ahal Region.

Turkmen plants produce reinforced blocks, expanded clay, precast reinforced concrete products, ceramic bricks, facing slabs. Plants of large-panel housing construction designed for the production of reinforced concrete structures for the construction of multi-storey residential buildings and cottage-type houses have significantly increased their potential. The output of ceramic bricks, fittings, metal profiles, plastic and fiberglass pipes increased. An important role is assigned to international cooperation, primarily the implementation of mutually beneficial projects and investments (including foreign investments).
