“The US-China trade conflict made no opportunity for Iran,” deputy president of the Iran-China Chamber of Commerce said.
“Basically, the US-China trade conflict has happened in an area that has nothing to do with Iran,” Majid Reza Hariri told Trend.
“The volume of US-China trade is 20 times larger than the volume of Iran-China trade, and their trade with us is different. China is buying commodities from the US, while we can't purchase those goods,” he added.
Hariri went on to say that China, on the other hand, sells goods, for which Iran is not the market. “The type of US-China trade, the level of trade and its form differ from the trade between Iran and China,” he noted.
As a result, the US-China trade conflict cannot be directly linked to our relationship with China, Hariri emphasized.
The 14-month U.S.-China trade war has escalated sharply since May, when talks broke down after Beijing backtracked on earlier commitments to make changes in law to improve intellectual property protections, curb the forced transfer of U.S. technology to Chinese firms and improve U.S. access to Chinese markets.
Since then, U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply increased existing tariffs on Chinese goods worth $200 billion and imposed or scheduled new tariffs on virtually all remaining imports from China to increase his negotiating leverage.
Experts believe that the deepening trade war between the United States and China could be a double shock to the fragile oil market, which is already effected by Iran-US tensions.
