Cargo transit via territory of Kazakhstan significantly up

The volume of container transport via territory of Kazakhstan increased by 35 percent during first eight months of 2019 compared to the same period of 2018, Trend reports with reference to the press office Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (Kazakhstan Railways).

This became known during the second meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) railway administration heads held in Nur-Sultan on September 19, 2019.

“One of the main areas of cooperation [within SCO] is development of transport corridors, which allow to accelerate and cheapen the logistics and increase the cargo transport,” Chairman of the Management Board NC Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC Sauat Mynbayev said.

Thus, Kazakhstan gives special attention to creation of favorable conditions for increase of cargo traffic via territory of country on the international transport routes East-West (NOMAD), International North–South Transport Corridor and TRACECA. Special attention is being given to infrastructure development. Thanks to the measures taken, the volume of container transport via territory of Kazakhstan increased by 35 percent during first eight months of 2019 compared to the same period of 2018.

There is also a positive impact of joint work of member states of Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (ТМТМ). The tariffs on transport of cargo via TMTM through territory of Kazakhstan from Europe, Turkey, countries of Caucasus to China decreased three times.

The importance of joint work on identification of cooperation priorities for realization of transit potential of the region, increase of competitiveness of railway transport of SCO has been highlighted during the meeting.

Mynbayev has stated his confidence that this meeting will give a significant impulse for further cooperation.
