Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a resolution “On measures to expand incentive mechanisms for the introduction of water-saving technologies in agriculture,” Trend reports citing Norma.uz portal.

The document notes that the total area of application of water-saving irrigation technologies today is only 75,000 hectares, or 1.7 percent of the total area of irrigated land.

According to the approved forecast indicators, in 2020 water-saving irrigation technologies should be introduced on 43,800 hectares, including in cultivated areas: cotton - on 24,800 hectares, fruit crops - on 11,400 hectares, vineyards - on 4,987 hectares and other crops - on 2,481 hectares.

Starting from Jan. 1, 2020, agricultural producers are provided with subsidies to cover part of the costs of introducing water-saving irrigation technologies, as well as part of the interest costs on bank loans allocated for their purchase and construction.

Also, from the same date, financial support for agricultural enterprises growing raw cotton for state needs on low-yielding lands will be canceled.

Since Jan. 1, 2022, the procedure for covering, through subsidies, the cost of electricity consumed by pumping units and irrigation wells for the production of raw cotton and cereals, applies exclusively to agricultural producers who have introduced water-saving irrigation technologies.
