Agriculture production increases in Iran

Iran plans to harvest 128 million tons of agricultural products in the current Iranian year (began March 20, 2020), Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jihad Shahrokh Shajari said, Trend reports referring to the ministry

Shajari emphasized that agricultural production in Iran was over 96 million tons seven years ago (the current government came to power in Iran in August 2013). This figure exceeded 123 million tons in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 to March 20, 2020).

The deputy minister added that the production of the planting areas was more than 68 million tons seven years ago and surpassed 83.5 million tons last year. This year, this figure is expected to exceed 86 million tons.

According to Shajari, horticultural production increased from 16 million tons seven years ago to 23 million tons in the last Iranian year. It is projected that this figure will reach 24.7 million tons in the current Iranian year.

"Seven years ago, 12 million tons of livestock products were received. The volume rose to 15.6 million tons last year and it is expected to be 16 million tons," he said.

Fishery production grew from 890,000 tons to 1.28 million tons, and it is planned to reach 1.4 million tons this Iranian year, said Shajari.

"The share of agriculture in GDP was 9.2 percent last year," he added.
