Approval of the project on establishing the transport logistics international centre in Azerbaijan within the TRACECA program by the European Commission is expected in early 2006, the Azerbaijan’s national secretary at the TRACECA inter-governmental commission Akif Mustafayev told Trend.

According to him, the project has been reflected in the program’s Action Plan. В"After the project’s approval the volume of its funding will be identified. The head office of the international centre for transport logistics will be in Baku with branches in Kiev, Almati for covering Europe and Asia. However, some countries, like Georgia and Ukraine, insist on the transport logistics centre to be in their countries. As the project has been proposed by the Azerbaijani side we hope Baku will be elected, being strategically important in the region”, he said.

Works on setting up the international centre for transport logistics will start in 2006. The project’s implementation period is 2 years. Establishing such centre will enable to regulate thoroughly the freight flows in the region, to manage traffic in all directions.
