Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 17 / corr. Trend E.Ismayilov /
The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) will announce in two or three months a tender on feasibility study of the modern center for wastes to be constructed in Azerbaijan, a source in SOCAR said on Aug.17.
Prior to the tender, which will take place in 8 to 10 weeks, the company will carry out preparatory work, the source said.
Under the agreement, signed between SOCAR and the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), only the American companies may take part in the tender. USTDA will take an active part in the preparation of feasibility study, which will ensure transparency, as well as choose the most suitable company to design a feasibility study.
The feasibility study will be prepared in a short period of time, as American companies have more experience and practice in this area.
It will be possible to talk about the power and timing of construction of the new center only after the preparation of feasibility studies, the source said.
The State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) and the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) signed a $572,068 grant agreement on Aug.13. The agreement was undersigned by head of SOCAR, Rovnag Abdullaev, and executive director of USTDA, David Hester.
Under the grant agreement, SOCAR will begin to create a modern center for wastes and announce a tender among foreign consulting firms with this purpose. Technical, economical, financial aspects will be determined and various proposals will be received on identification of alternative ways of implementation as a result of a feasibility study on construction of the center.
"The company realizes a number of ecological projects, particularly, projects on soil and industrial water treatment. So, the company needs a new center of wastes, which will process, collect and liquidate the industrial waste," Abdullayev said earlier.
At present, SOCAR has a center of waste, which functions since 1985, but physically and morally outdated.
