Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 28 / Trend E.Ismayilov /

The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) completed a three-dimensional (3D) model of the Kalmaz underground gas storage facility, a source in SOCAR said.

Three-dimensional geophysical survey, data processing and interpretation were carried out to prepare the model for gas storage facility.

The 3D model is required to increase the active volume of the gas storage facility from 1.2 billion cubic meters to 2.4 billion cubic meters.

The country has two underground storage facilities - Garadagh and Kalmaz. SOCAR holds expansion work at both storages. Gas is pumped into underground storage facilities for use in the autumn-winter

The volume of gas reserves in the Azerbaijani underground gas storage facilities will amount to three billion cubic meters in 2010. The figure was at about two billion cubic meters in 2009 compared to 1.4 billion cubic meters in 2008. About 795.3 millions of cubic meters of gas were pumped into Garadagh underground and 1.16 billions of cubic meters - Kalmaz in 2009.
