The project to build the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) is a vivid, concrete example of active cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy, said Chief of the Cabinet of Italy's Economic Development Ministry Vito Cozzoli said Oct. 9.
He was addressing a press conference in Baku, Azerbaijan, dedicated to the bilateral meetings of the representatives of Italian and Azerbaijani companies.
Cozzoli said Italian companies are showcasing an increasing interest in Azerbaijan.
"Azerbaijan has become a very important trade partner for us. Over the past few years [bilateral] trade turnover has intensified," he added.
Cozzoli also noted that the growth in mutual exports amounted to 15 percent.
"Both countries are implementing joint energy projects, and TAP [Trans Adriatic Pipeline] is a vivid confirmation of our cooperation," he added.
TAP envisages transportation of gas from the Azerbaijani gas condensate Shah Deniz II field to the EU countries.
The approximately 870 km long pipeline will connect with the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkish-Greek border at Kipoi, cross Greece and Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Southern Italy.
TAP's initial capacity will be 10 billion cubic meters per year, expandable to 20 billion cubic meters per year.
