When will construction phase of IGB start? (Exclusive)

The construction phase of the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB), which envisages transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Bulgaria, will start in the first half of 2019, Teodora Georgieva, Executive Officer of ICGB AD (project company) on the Bulgarian side, told Trend.

Talking about the procurement procedure as part of the project, she noted that selection of Owner’s Engineer for IGB Project was launched on November 8, 2017.

“The deadline for the submission of the offers was September 10, 2018. Twelve companies and consortiums have submitted offers and currently the evaluation process is ongoing. The decision of the evaluation committee is expected by the end of November 2018,” said Georgieva.

She noted that the tender for line pipe manufacture and supply was launched on December 8, 2017.

“The procedure comprises of two stages. The first stage a prequalification was completed on May 18, 2018 and based on the offers received and the controls performed 10 candidates were admitted to second stage. The deadline for submission of offers for the second stage has elapsed on 02.07.2018, currently the evaluation process of the Technical offers is ongoing and shall be completed by the end of December 2018. The process is expected to be finalized by the end of Q1 2019,” added the executive officer.

She went on to add that the tender for selecting a contractor for design, procurement and construction was launched on April 30, 2018.

“The procedure comprises of two stages, the first stage is a prequalification of the candidates and elapsed on September 10, 2018 and 11 offers have been submitted. The first stage is expected to be completed by the end of November 2018. The tender is expected to be finalized in Q1 2019,” said Georgieva.

She pointed out that a contract for archeological research along the pipeline route on Bulgarian territory was awarded on August 6, 2018.

The contract has been concluded and the works are ongoing, said Georgieva, adding that the public procurement for selection of a consultant for construction supervision for the Bulgarian section of IGB was launched on October 10, 2018

“The procedure consists of one stage and is expected to be finalized by the end of Q1 2019. Based on the above the construction phase of the pipeline shall start in H1 2019,” she concluded.

IGB is a gas pipeline, which will allow Bulgaria to receive Azerbaijani gas, in particular, the gas produced from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz 2 gas and condensate field. IGB is expected to be connected to TAP via which gas from the Shah Deniz field will be delivered to the European markets.

The initial capacity of IGB will be 3 billion cubic meters of gas.
