Iran’s NIGC: volume of gas supplied to TPP increases

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 19

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The volume of gas supplied to Iranian thermal power plants increased by 2 billion cubic meters during the first four months of the current Iranian year (March 20 - July 21, 2020) compared to the same period last Iranian year, Deputy Oil Minister and Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Hassan Montazer Torbati said, Trend reports referring to the company’s official website.

Torbati said that 26 billion cubic meters of gas was supplied to Iranian thermal power plants during this period.

The deputy minister added that this figure was 24 billion cubic meters in the same period last Iranian year.

The director stressed that despite overhaul of some gas refineries, an average of 210 million cubic meters of natural gas per day was supplied to power plants in the current Iranian year.

"The supply of this amount of natural gas to thermal power plants has resulted in a reduction in the consumption of oil products, mainly diesel," he said.

Torbati noted that each 1 billion liters of diesel costs about $500 million on the world market. There is an opportunity to export diesel worth $1 billion with an increase in gas consumption of 2 billion cubic meters.
