By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

The water reserves of Iran's dams decreased by 20 percent, within the 157 days of the current water year in the country (September 23, 2021 through February 26, 2022), compared to the same period last Iranian year, an official of Iran Water Resources Management Company Firouz Ghasemzadeh said, Trend reports citing Iranian Energy Ministry.

The official said that the water reserves of Iran's dams for the reporting period amounted to about 22.1 billion cubic meters.

He also added that the inflow of water into the country’s dams amounted to 12.1 billion within the mentioned period, which is a decrease of 16 percent, compared to the same period last Iranian year.

"Due to the fact that snowfall has doubled this year, compared to the same period last year, water inflows are expected to increase in the coming months," Ghasemzadeh noted.

According to the official, currently, 10 percent of the dams in Iran's Isfahan Province, 16 percent in Tehran Province, 39 percent in Lake Urmia in West Azerbaijan Province and 49 percent in Khuzestan Province are full.
