BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 4. Electricity consumption in Iran increased by 4 percent, during the first 13 days of the current Iranian year (March 21 through April 2, 2022), compared to the same period last Iranian year, the Spokesman for the Iranian Energy Ministry Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

According to Rajabi Mashhadi, the country has consumed 10 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity within the mentioned period.

The spokesman added that the highest volume of electricity consumption for 13 days was recorded in Iran’s Tehran, Fars and Zanjan provinces.

“So, electricity consumption in these three provinces is more than 10 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year,” he said.

Meanwhile, the least volume of electricity was consumed in Iran's Kermanshah, Semnan and Sistan and Baluchestan provinces for the reporting period, Rajabi Mashhadi also pointed out.

The official stressed that electricity consumption is expected to increase in coming week due to the warming of weather.

“Thus, the maximum electricity consumption in the country is expected to increase to 42,000 megawatt-hours next week,” he said.

The total capacity of Iran's power plants (thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, and so on) is currently about 85,559 megawatt-hours. About 81 percent of which is accounted for thermal power plants. Iran's electricity generation capacity is planned to be increased to 120,000 megawatt-hours by March 20, 2025,
