BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 15. Iran plans to launch four thermal power units at power plants, owned by the country’s largest industrial companies during the summer season of the next Iranian year (June 21 through September 21, 2024), said Zaman Hosseini, an official of Energy Ministry, Trend reports.

He said that two of these units will be located in the Golgohar Mining and Industrial Company’s thermal power plant, and the other two in the Chadormalu Mining. Each unit will have a 183 megawatt power generation capacity.

Hosseini also mentioned that the Mobarakeh Steel Company’s thermal power plant will have its second gas unit operational by early February 2024. This unit will be able to produce 307 megawatts of electricity.

The official added that the launch of a 183 megawatt-hour unit at the Al-Mahdi Aluminum Company recently brought the total number of units activated since the start of last year (March 21, 2022) to five, and the overall electricity production capacity to 871 megawatts.

There are currently 616 power units operating in 134 TPPs in Iran. The power generation capacity of the country's thermal power plants is 74,198 megawatt-hours.

Over 280 million megawatts of electricity were generated by the country's thermal power plants in the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through December 21, 2023).

At present, the power generation capacity of Iran's all power plants, including thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, etc., is approximately 91,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent is accounted for by the country’s thermal power plants.
