The number of registered cars in Kazakhstan amounted to 650,298 vehicles during the first ten months of 2020, which is 12.8 percent less than during the same period of 2019, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Statistics Committee.

As of Nov. 1, 2020, the total number of passenger cars registered in Kazakhstan amounted to 3.8 million.

The committee noted that 86.1 percent of registered cars work on gasoline. Some 11.4 percent of the cars operate on mixed fuel, 2.4 percent on diesel fuel, and 0.1 percent on LPG.

As of Nov. 1, 2020, insurance companies made 55,994 payments worth 23.4 billion tenge (approximately $55.7 million) on Compulsory Civil Liability Insurance of Vehicle Owners.

The number of registered car accidents amounted to 10,408 cases over the course of the first ten months of 2020, which is 22.3 percent less than during the same period of 2019. Some 15,123 people were injured in these accidents.

By a decree of Kazakhstan's President Kassym Jomart Tokayev, as a result of the spreading coronavirus pandemic, a quarantine regime has been introduced in a number of Kazakh cities and regions, thus restricting transportation and use of personal vehicles.

Due to the introduced restrictions, the number of car accidents has significantly decreased all across the country.
