BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 4. In preparation for the customs-related tasks associated with the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the State Customs Committee of Azerbaijan has established a "Customs Commission - COP29" and developed a “State Customs Committee Action Plan," Trend reports via the organization’s press service.
The committee noted that substantial efforts have been made to facilitate the swift crossing of borders and streamline procedures under the action plan. This includes the use of technology for contactless inspections, as well as initiatives to inform and educate stakeholders.
"To expedite the clearance of materials and equipment delivered for the organization of the event, a 'Temporary COP29 Customs Control Zone' has been set up at the Baku Olympic Stadium, and staff members have been designated for this purpose.
Improvements have been made to the process of preliminary electronic declaration for items that visitors will bring to Azerbaijan. To streamline and expedite the preparation of simplified customs declarations, the committee has provided brief links to product names on its portal for media representatives and created a mechanism for confirming declarations using QR codes.
Advanced technological tools, such as X-ray inspection equipment, mobile and stationary inspection systems, baggage screening devices, and various other technical control instruments, have equipped customs authorities to enhance security.
The committee has prepared and posted informative and explanatory videos on its official website to inform event participants and guests about the rules governing goods crossing the customs border. These videos have also been integrated into the official COP29 website.
Additionally, customs personnel have participated in training sessions to enhance their knowledge and service quality, according to the committee's statement.
