Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Dec. 8 / Trend H.Valiyev /
The work on laying the Caspian segment of the fiber-optic cable line connecting Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan will enter a new phase, the Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry reported.
The issue was discussed by the heads of the Azerbaijani and Turkmen communications administrations. The sides agreed to accelerate the project'.
Azerbaijani Communications and IT Minister Ali Abbasov said earlier that his country's U.N.-adopted resolution to create the East-West information superhighway will eliminate the existing "knowledge" gap between Asia and the West. Based on the resolution, all regional countries have been given recommendations on how to implement the project, he added.
Constructing the Caspian segment of the fiber-optic cable line between Azerbaijan and Turmenistan is advantageous as it reduces the superhighway's length.
The project is included in an intergovernmental Turkmen-Azerbaijani commission's protocol.
