During a 10 month period, the growth rate of Azerbaijan's information and communication technologies sector reached an 18.2 per cent increase, head of the Strategic Development Department at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology Isbandiyar Aliyev said at a press conference on the results of the 'People's Computer' project.

"Starting 2013, it is expected to launch work on the project of broadband Internet development," Aliyev said.

The project will be implemented on the 'fibre-to-the-home' principle. The minimum data transfer rate provided to the end user in Baku, will reach 30 Mbits / s, while the maximum will hit 100 Mbit /s. In the regions, the figure will stand at 10-30 Mbit /s, Aliyev said.

The computers offered within the 'People's Computer' project, are sold under an interest free loan for up to 12 months at a price of 25-40 per cent below the market value.

The project is carried out with the involvement of HP and Microsoft. Supplies of equipment are made by HP's local partner, Best Comp Group Company.

Antivirus software Symantec, ADSL-modems and KUR and DATA cards from the Azerbaijani Azercell Telekom and Azerfon mobile operators are being offered to customers.
