Foreign companies participate in Kazakhstan's economy digitalization

Some 169 companies, including 20 foreign ones are participating in implementation of 74 ICT projects within the framework of Digital Kazakhstan state program, Ministry of Digital Development, Defense and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan told Trend.

According to the source in the ministry, 149 Kazakh companies which are realizing ICT projects include 65 local ICT companies, 18 quasi public companies and 66 other ventures.

“Citizens, tourists, urban business community and public organizations are an integral part of regions’ and economy sectors’ digitalization due to the fact that they are the main users of services and products,” the source said.

The source noted, that the ministry is implementing a ‘Provision of Rural Localities of the Republic of Kazakhstan with Broadband Internet Access under the Fiber-Optic Communication Lines Technology’ project via the mechanism of public private partnership.

“The goal of this project is to promote the development of fiber-optic links on territory of Kazakhstan via procurement of communications services,” the source in the ministry said.

Thus, 1,250 rural settlements are to be provided with access to the internet, including 56 localities in 2018, 685 localities in 2019 and 509 localities in 2020.

“This will allow to provide 3,718 public authorities and budget organizations with access to high speed internet connection. Furthermore, the created infrastructure will provide for development of cellular operators. Overall length of fiber-optic links will be over 20,000 kilometers,” the source said.

In addition, private partners have provided 177 public authorities and budget organization with the access to the internet in 56 rural localities in 2018. Some 2,016 public authorities and budget organizations are to be provided with access to the internet in 685 rural localities in 2019, the source concluded.
