BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 11

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

China delivered the first batches of modern and powerful locomotives for freight and cargo-passenger transportation to Uzbekistan, Trend reports referring to the press service of Uzbekistan Railways.

In total, it is planned to deliver 30 modern electric locomotives and spare parts to Uzbekistan within the framework of the project "Renewal of the fleet of locomotives through the acquisition of locomotives" with the participation of the Asian Development Bank.

The new locomotives are designed for passenger and cargo transportation capable of transporting goods, including heavy ones, in mountain ranges with difficult terrain.

Electric locomotives meet international requirements for environmental safety and are equipped with asynchronous traction motors. Modern technologies used in locomotives, along with energy savings, can also reduce fuel consumption.

To date, the first batch of electric locomotives in the amount of four units (three freight and one cargo-passenger locomotives) and spare parts have been shipped. The first two-section freight locomotive from this batch, upon completion of the commissioning work, went into a run-in on December 9, 2020.

According to the Uzbekistan Railways, it is expected to ship the second batch of electric locomotives in the amount of five units (three freight and two cargo-passenger locomotives) in the coming days.

By the end of 2020, it is planned to ship the third batch of electric locomotives in the amount of three units (freight locomotives).

In addition, it is planned to supply the remaining lots of electric locomotives in accordance with the contract in the amount of 13 units of freight and five units of cargo-passenger electric locomotives in 2021.

It was noted that at present more than 50 percent of the available locomotives have been renewed in the locomotive fleet of Uzbekistan Railways.
