BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 7

Trend:

The member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) will take measures aimed at reducing carbon emissions and stimulating the choice of rail transport by freight owners, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy JSC (Railways of Kazakhstan) told Trend.

These measures are enshrined in a memorandum on promoting the sustainable development of transit potential and environmental safety of the EAEU railway transport, signed in August 2021.

According to the JSC, the memorandum enshrined the environmental principles of the operation of railway companies and the importance of using additional instruments aimed at reducing carbon emissions and stimulating the choice of railway transport by freight owners.

"The parties also confirmed their intentions to continue cooperation to increase the transit traffic of goods on the railways of Kazakhstan, Russia and Belarus between China and Europe and on the opposite direction within the framework of the United Transport and Logistics Company - the Eurasian Railroad Alliance (UTLC ERA JSC)," the Kazakh company said.

Moreover, an agreement was reached to unite efforts to actively introduce modern digital technologies to increase the attractiveness of Eurasian transit rail routes.

"Currently, together with railway carriers, as well as authorized bodies of the EAEU countries, work is underway to implement a plan of priority measures for the digitalization of freight rail transport in the interests of developing trade and economic cooperation between the EAEU countries and China," added the company.
