Kazakhstan's Permanent Representative to UNESCO and famous writer Oljas Suleimenov was hospitalized during the UNESCO Forum in Astana on Monday. The regional meeting of Central Asian National Commissions of UNESCO runs in Astana on Monday.

Kazakhstan's Permanent Representative to UNESCO and famous writer Oljas Suleimenov was hospitalized during the UNESCO Forum in Astana on Monday. The regional meeting of Central Asian National Commissions of UNESCO runs in Astana on Monday.

Suleimanov was feeling weak during the first break and worse during the second part of the forum, when a doctor was called. During the break, Suleimenov was taken in an ambulance to a hospital in Astana.

Suleimenov declined to give an interview, due to his weak state.

In May 2011 Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev presented the "Dostluq" (Friendship) order to Suleimenov for his contributions in popularizing Azerbaijani culture throughout the world.

Suleimenov was born on May 18, 1936, in Almaty. In 1989 he became the initiator and leader of the Nevada - Semipalatinsk popular movement, the goal of which was to close down the Semipalatinsk Nuclear Test Site and other nuclear sites worldwide. He has been acting as Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to UNESCO in Paris since 2002.
