Elections to the Majilis of the Parliament of Kazakhstan held in a calm, business-like atmosphere, Alexei Vlasov, international observer, the chief editor of the Caucasus Bulletin news and analytical agency said to Trend on Sunday.

"From 7 am, as usual, seniors, for old Soviet times' sake, came to the polling stations and waited for opening. In this regard, Kazakhstan is a country of patriarchal traditions. Buffets was working, music was playing, there were gifts for those who voted for the first time - all just like in the 70s of last century, "- said the member of Expert Council of Trend Vlasov.

According to him, the exit polls of voters were conducted, but mainly older people responded, young voters preferred to remain silent.

The only problem, according to Vlasov, was voters' lists in Astana. "There're a lot of technical errors, the town is growing visibly, many people buy apartments, but live and are registered in another place," - said the expert.

"So, voters were allowed to vote upon presentation of entries in the house register. In other respects, any apparent violations were not identified. This has already been stated by many international observers," - said Vlasov.

According to him, the opposition organized monitoring of violations in social networks, but to be honest, it all looked not very convincing. Misses of some chairmen of election commissions obviously can not be called large-scale distortions, he said.

"And the situation itself, even in Zhanaozen, does not correspond to the arguments of those experts who predicted the Kazakhstani authorities a post-election surge in activity of opponents. Let's see what will happen after the announcement of final election results, but it seems that most analysts do not doubt the victory of the party in power with big advantage," - said Vlasov.

The elections to Majilis and maslikhats have been held today in Kazakhstan. The preliminary election results will be announced on January 16.

The Nur Otan national-democratic party, Adilet, Kazakhstan Patriots' Party, Nationwide social-democratic party, Ak Zhol, Communist People's Party of Kazakhstan and the Kazakh Social Democratic Party Auyl are taking part in the elections.
