Kazakh Railways to purchase internal combustion locomotives from Chinese CRRC

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 17. As part of the One Belt, One Road Forum, a cooperation agreement will be signed between Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, national company) and Chinese CRRC Corporation Limited in the amount of $1.3 billion, Trend reports.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke about the matter with Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of CRRC Corporation Limited, Sun Yongcai during their latest meeting.

The document provides for Kazakhstan acquiring 200 shunting and mainline internal combustion locomotives, the creation of engineering and service centers in Kazakhstan.

Tokayev noted that Kazakhstan is interested in deep localization of locomotive production using advanced technologies and the creation of service centers for servicing railway equipment. He said that Kazakhstan is a key transport and logistics hub through which CRRC can gain access to the markets of the Eurasian space and Europe. Tokayev expressed support for the company's plans to invest $200 million for these purposes.

"It is gratifying that for 20 years your corporation has been fruitfully cooperating with our country. Over these years, Kazakhstan purchased from the company about 300 passenger railroad cars and locomotives, as well as 6,000 freight wagons," he said.

In turn, Sun Yongcai expressed gratitude for the support provided to his company in Kazakhstan.

CRRC Corporation Limited is the world's largest manufacturer of railway transport; the Chinese company owns about 50 percent of the global locomotive production market.
