ASTANA, Kazakhstan, March 3. The volume of investments in the economy of the Kazakhstan's Abay region amounted to 568.9 billion tenge (about $1.26 billion) in 2023, said the head of the region Nurlan Urankhayev during a meeting with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Trend reports.
"Last year, investments worth 568.9 billion tenge were invested in the region’s economy with an increase of 132.7 percent, while private investment increased by 131.5 percent," he said.
According to him, the number of active SMEs reached 53,200 with an increase of 107.1 percent.
In addition, in 2023, industrial production increased by 105.1 percent, agriculture by 103.5 percent, and the volume of construction work increased by 119.1 percent.
Meanwhile, last year, the volume of investments in fixed capital of Kazakhstan increased by 13.7 percent and amounted to $39.5 billion, while over the first nine months of 2023, $19.7 billion of foreign direct investment was attracted.
Moreover, the volume of foreign trade turnover of Kazakhstan amounted to $139.8 billion from January through December 2023. This is 3.2 percent higher than in the same period in 2022.
Exports totaled $78.6 billion (in nominal terms, 7 percent less than the same time in 2022). At the same time, imports grew by 20.1 percent, totaling $61.1 billion.
