ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 14. Kazakhstan will implement railway projects for the development of the International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC), Trend reports.

This is provided for by the "Program for the Development of Railway Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan until 2029," which was submitted for public discussion by the Ministry of Transport.

According to the program, as part of the development of INSTC, it is necessary to build second tracks on the Kigash-Alimbet section, as well as introduce automatic blocking on the Alimbet-Kandyagash, Nikeltau-Tobol sections.

Moreover, the program provides for the development of 56 separate points in the above sections.

As the Ministry of Transport noted, the implementation of these measures will increase capacity by 2.4 times, as well as increase the possibility of passing trains by 5 times.

The foundation of the North-South corridor was laid based on an intergovernmental agreement signed between Russia, Iran, and India on September 12, 2000.

In total, 13 countries (Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Armenia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Oman, Russia, Tajikistan, Türkiye and Ukraine) have ratified the agreement.

The North-South corridor includes various modes of transport: rail, road, and inland waterways. The infrastructure of this route provides flexibility and a variety of transport routes. The corridor also facilitates international trade and the development of cooperation between the regions it connects.
