Uzbek and Kyrgyz border agencies are strengthening cooperation in ensuring security of the interstate border, press service of the Border Guard Service of the State Security Service (SSS) of Uzbekistan stated on April 25.

In early April 2018, border guards of Kyrgyzstan announced that Uzbek border guards opened fire at a Kyrgyz citizen in Mamay settlement of Aksyy district of the Jalal-Abad province, who had been on the Kyrgyz territory, eventually killing him.

The State Border Security Committee of the State Security Service of Uzbekistan stated that the man had illegally crossed the border and refused to follow orders of the border guards. Heads of the border security services of the two countries agreed to hold a joint investigation of the incident and not to use weapons in case of accidental border crossing in the future.

“In line with the agreements between the heads of the border security services of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, a close interaction between divisions and units of both sides has been established,” an official message on the Gazeta.uz news portal read.

The work is aimed at operative reaction on changes of situation, reliable security of border, prevention of the border regime violation.
