Uzbekistan to increase number of facilities recording water based on 'smart water’ technology

Uzbekistan plans to bring up the number of water facilities that record water based on digital Smart Water technology to 18,576, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev approved the Strategy for Water Resources Management and Development of the Irrigation Sector in Uzbekistan for 2021–2023.

It is reported that as part of the strategy, it is planned to reduce the area of irrigated lands with a low level of water supply from 526,000 hectares to 424,000 hectares. Also, the decree provides for a reduction in the area of saline lands from 1,926,000 hectares to 1,888,000 hectares.

In addition, irrigated land areas that have come out of agricultural use will be re-introduced into circulation (232,000 hectares of areas). It is planned to bring up to 18,576 units of the number of water facilities that record water based on digital Smart Water technology and transfer 60 large water facilities to automated control based on digital technologies.

Furthermore, according to the document, the electricity consumption and water consumption of 5,231 pumping units of 1,688 pumping stations of the Ministry of Water Resources system will be monitored online and a total of 124 projects in the water sector will be implemented on the basis of public-private partnerships.

It is also reported that Uzbekistan will establish a zero customs duty rate for the import of ethylene polymers (TN VED code 3901) and propylene polymers (TN VED code 3902) until October 1, 2021. Moreover, an automated interdepartmental information system of water resources will be launched in stages until July 1, 2021.
