BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 1. Uzbekistan put into operation 2 solar photovoltaic power plants with a capacity of 100 MW each in Navoi and Samarkand regions, Trend reports via the Uzbek Ministry of Energy.
The power plants generated 411 million kWh of electricity since the beginning of the year. As a result, 124 million cubic meters of natural gas was saved and emissions of 164,000 tons of harmful gases into the atmosphere were prevented.
This amount of electricity can potentially cover the annual consumption of about 140,000 households.
Uzbekistan pays special attention to the introduction of energy-saving technologies and the development of renewable energy sources (RES). It is expected to increase the share of electricity production using all types of RES to a level of at least 25 percent by 2026.
