The U.S. has a plan for military action against Iran if diplomacy does not help prevent the Islamic Republic of obtaining nuclear weapons, the chief of U.S. Joint Staff Admiral Michael Mullen said Sunday, RBC reported.
The admiral added that he was "extremely concerned" about the consequences that could have such an offensive. At the same time, he noted that it was unacceptable to allow Iran to acquire nuclear weapons.
Military action against Iran could have "unintended consequences that are difficult to predict in an area also incredibly unstable," said Mullen on NBC.
Mullen expressed hope that the diplomatic efforts of the international community and the sanctions it imposed on Iran lead the Islamic Republic to abandon its uranium enrichment program.
Tehran says its program to enrich uranium only for civilian and peaceful purposes.
