Two Iranian independent filmmakers Katayoun Shahabi and Mehran Zinatbakhsh, who were accused and detained in September for the cooperation with the BBC Persian Service, have been released on bail on Wednesday evening, ISNA reported.

Earlier, in mid-October, the website of the documentary filmmakers organization reported that another two filmmakers Naser Safarian and Mohsen Shahrnazdar were released on bail worth $200 000.

Early October, the BBC TV and Radio Corporation screened a documentary film shot by six Iranian documentary filmmakers. The filmmakers Mojtaba Mir Tahmaseb, Katayoun Shahabi, Hadi Afarideh, Naser Safarian, Shahnam Bazdar and Mohsen Shahrnazdar were arrested on September 17. They were accused of espionage and distribution of the BBC film.

Later, Mehran Zinatbakhsh was also arrested in relation to the case.

However, the broadcaster denied they were staff employees.

Earlier, Iran has blocked BBC's activities, accusing the corporation of provoking the protest movement after the disputed presidential elections in 2009.

The Iranian Intelligence Ministry issued a statement reading that the members of the network provided the BBC with "propaganda subjects to be exploited in psychological warfare by the enemies of Iran and Islam".

BBC does not have an office in Tehran.
