Iran to increase power generation capacity in Persian Gulf

Iran plans to construct a new power generation unit in Kish Island, located in the Persian Gulf, Iran's Mehr News Agency reported on April 6.

Once the unit comes on stream some 37.5 megawatt hours of electricity will be added to Iran's power generation capacity in the Persian Gulf.

By inauguration of the unit, Kish Island's nominal electricity production capacity will reach 275 Megawatt hours.

Three Arab states have declared their readiness to import electricity from Iran.

The managing director of Kish Free Zone Organization, Ali Asghar Mounesan, said on January 16 that Kish Island's electricity network is not connected to the mainland's power network, the IRNA News Agency reported on January 17.

Iran's electricity production capacity is around 70,000 megawatt hours.

Iran currently trades power with Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Syria, and Iraq.

Iran seeks to become a major regional exporter of electricity and has attracted more than $1.1 billion in investments for the construction of three new power plants.
