Turkey's chief European Union negotiator Departs on European Tour

(ZAMAN) - Turkey's chief EU negotiator Ali Babacan will leave for a tour of three European Union (EU) member countries later today (Tuesday).

He also is expected to meet with EU officials just a few weeks before the release of a key annual report by the European Commission on Turkey's progress during its EU bid, reports Trend.

Babacan will visit Madrid and Spain first, where he is scheduled to have contacts with several EU delegations. Babacan is expected to meet with Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos and other top officials on Oct. 11.

On Oct. 12, Babacan will depart for Brussels for talks with EU Justice Commissioner Franco Frattini and EU Commissioner for Science and Research Janez Potocnik.

Babacan will also meet Germany's Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Economy Minister Michael Glos in Berlin on Friday, after completing his contacts in Brussels.

After concluding state business in Berlin, Babacan is expected to return Turkey on Friday.
