Olive production increases in Iran

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 9

Olive production increased by 20 times this Iranian year (beginning on March 21, 2019) compared to 1993, Executor of the olive production project of the Iranian Agriculture Ministry Rahmatulla Perichehr said.

“Some 147,000 tons of olives have been produced this Iranian year,” Perichehr added, Trend reports referring to the ministry’s website.

“The area of the plantations of olive groves covered 92,000 hectares and increased by 19 times this year compared to 1993,” the executor of the olive production project said. “The production of olive oil increased by 80 percent this Iranian year compared to last Iranian year and 11,600 tons of olive oil were produced.”

“Some 15,000 tons of olive oil are consumed in Iran annually and about 3,000 tons of olive oil account for import,” Perichehr said.
