PACE rapporteur on humanitarian issues will visit Abkhazia

The representative of the PACE Committee on Migration, Refugees and Population, will visit Sukhumi and Gali (Abkhazia, Georgia) from 12 to 15 December to prepare a report "on the humanitarian situation in the region."

The representative of the PACE Committee on Migration, Refugees and Population, will visit Sukhumi and Gali (Abkhazia, Georgia) from 12 to 15 December to prepare a report "on the humanitarian situation in the region."

As the site of PACE reports, the mission of preparing this document will come out of Sweden MP Tina Aketoft, who was appointed as the new speaker of PACE in April this year.

As part of the tour Aketoft meet with representatives of NGOs and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
Military actions were launched in the Georgian territory, South Ossetia on Aug.8 in 2008. Later the Russian troops occupied the Tskhinvali city and drove the Georgian military back. Russia recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in late August. In response, Tbilisi broke off diplomatic relations with Moscow and announced two unrecognized republics as the occupied territories.
