Sportsmen engaged in non-Olympic sport, but included in Asian Games will receive scholarships, director of the State Agency for Physical Culture and Sports Kanat Amankulov told journalists while presenting awards to athletes on behalf of Prime Minister Sapar Isakov at the 5th Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts in Turkmenistan, Kabar reports.
Kyrgyz National Team was prepared as much as possible for these games. The state helped the sportsmen with their trainings as well as provided support with flights and accommodation, etc.
"We showed the best result at these games. We received 13 gold, 20 silver and 37 bronze medals. Out of 63 teams we got 8th place, outranking the world powers, " Amankulov said.
He also said that such great results were shown for the first time and this is thanks to the support of the state. “Our policy was aimed at supporting those sportsmen who had been showing good results and give an opportunity to demonstrate their skills once more. We did not even expect such results. Our athletes do not intend to stop thereon. Thus we have prepared amendments to the law on physical culture and sports on providing with scholarships even for those athletes who are engaged in non-Olympic sports, but included in the Asian Games," he added.
