Israel infiltrated Lebanon's mobile company, minister says

Lebanese Telecommunications Minister Charbel Nahhas said Monday that Israel infiltrated the country's the telecoms sector during its war with the militant Hezbollah movement in 2006, dpa reported.

"Israel was able to control this sector through its spies," which were planted inside the mobile company Alfa, Nahhas said, adding the sector needed to be strengthened.

Lebanese security forces have detained several people in recent months on suspicion of collaborating with Israel, including three employees of Alpha - one of two mobile companies in Lebanon.

The Lebanese daily As Safir said the collaborators passed on telephone numbers, which allowed the Israelis to track down Hezbollah militants and bomb their homes during the July 2006 conflict.

Israel has not commented on the claims.
