Syria has accused Israel of fabricating espionage charges leveled against three people, the official SANA news agency reported Friday.
In a letter sent late Thursday by Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Mualem to United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Damascus also said Israel was aiming to "intimidate" the three people, dpa says
Two of the those arrested Thursday are residents of the Golan Heights, a territory Israel occupied from Syria in the 1967 regional war. The third is an Arab citizen of Israel.
Israeli officials said they were spying for Syria and gathering intelligence on a dissident.
Mualem said Israel repeatedly violated international law and "most basic norms of human rights" and that was having a negative impact on regional peace efforts, according to the letter.
The foreign minister also demanded Israel release all Syrians it holds in jail.
