Israel delivers drones to Russia

Israel Materials 9 December 2010 16:17 (UTC +04:00)

Isreal had completed the delivery of 14 drones under one of two such deals with Russia this year, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Vladimir Popovkin said Thursday, Xinhua reported.

Popovkin told the Interfax news agency the drones would be used primarily for the training of Russian servicemen.

Training of the drone operators would be conducted in a special training facility built on the order of Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov.

The cost of the deal was not disclosed.

Serdyukov announced in early September that Moscow had bought 12 Israeli unmanned aerial vehicles, and 50 servicemen were being trained to operate them.

Russia has previously purchased Israel-made light Bird-Eye 400 and medium-to-heavy Searcher Mk II drones for 53 million U.S. dollars.
