A lawmaker disclosed on Monday that the Kuwaiti government has tendered its resignation to Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah, while the parliament speaker denied the resignation, reported Xinhua.
Independent lawmaker Nasser al-Duwailah told reporters that the government had submitted its resignation in a bid to ward off a questioning of the prime minister in parliament.
"I have information that the cabinet has submitted its resignation to the emir," Duwailah said, adding that it was now unclear whether it has been accepted.
Meanwhile, the official KUNA news agency quoted Parliament speaker Jassem al-Khorafi as saying that he has not been notified of anything pertinent to the government resignation or assembly dissolution.
The parliament is to convene Tuesday as scheduled, he said.
