The US space shuttle Atlantis blasted off on its final mission Friday from Cape Canaveral, Florida, thrusting through a perfect deep blue sky and carrying six astronauts to the International Space Station, DPA reported.
Atlantis will deliver a Russian research module, replacement parts and supplies during the 12-day mission, during which three spacewalks are planned mainly to install new batteries and remove old ones on the solar energy collectors.
