Earthquake shocks Afghan district, houses damaged

An earthquake jolted Marmal district in Balkh province 305 km north of Afghan capital Kabul on Wednesday, a local television channel reported.

"The earthquake shocked Marmal district Wednesday morning and according to locals, 140 houses have been damaged," Tolo aired in its news bulletin, Xinhua reported.

There is no casualty, the television said, adding aftershocks have been reported.

However, it did not mention the magnitude of the tremor on the Richter scale.
