Fiat ahead of Volkswagen, Renault in sales on Turkey's car market

Fiat ranked ahead of Renault in the Turkish car market in sales for April 2020, Trend reports referring to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).

Fiat held 13.3 percent of the Turkish car market, followed by Volkswagen – 11.8 percent, Renault – 9.9 percent, Peugeot – 9 percent, Opel – 8 percent, Ford – 6.9 percent, Citroen – 4 percent, Skoda – 1.7 percent, and Nissan – 0.9 percent.

The remaining 34.5 percent accounted for other cars.

The number of vehicles used in Turkey declined by 26 percent in April 2020 compared to April 2019 and amounted to 40,171 cars.

The share of cars in the total number of vehicles in Turkey made up 48.9 percent, vans and trucks – 11.1 percent, motorcycles – 28.3 percent, and tractors – 7.4 percent. The remaining 4.3 percent accounted for other vehicles.

Turkey ranks sixth in Europe in car production. Ford, Fiat, Renault, Toyota, Honda, Opel, Hyundai, Mercedes-Benz and MAN are assembled in Turkey. Turkey also manufactures local brands of buses such as BMC, Temsa and Otokar.
