Nefarious scenarios that are being implemented in the Middle East today, were prepared for Azerbaijan as well, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said Sept.8, addressing the meeting on economic issues and preparation of the state budget for 2016.
Some foreign circles were talking about the "Arab Spring" in Azerbaijan in 2011 and then in 2012 and were stating that it is unavoidable, Aliyev noted.
The head of state said that much has been done to exacerbate the situation and disrupt the stability in the country, adding that however, all this was revealed by the country's law enforcement agencies.
They wanted to create 'Maidan' in Azerbaijan, involve the youth in these nefarious activities and made them miserable, President Aliyev said.
The president said lots of funds were spent to exacerbate the situation in Azerbaijan.
"There were revealed tens of millions of dollars that were supposed to be brought to Azerbaijan illegally, through the local 'fifth column' and with the help of NGOs in order to exacerbate the situation and bring to power the people serving some foreign circles here," he added.
These processes have become more serious since early 2013, said Aliyev, adding that there were observed attempts to exacerbate the situation, disrupt the stability and destroy Azerbaijan on the eve of the presidential election.
"I speak openly and don't take it otherwise," said Ilham Aliyev. "Only the enemies of Azerbaijani people, Azerbaijani state could have participated in these activities, because today, Azerbaijan is a modern, secularly developing, open and tolerant state on a global scale."
"Who do we hinder? No one. Our relations with all countries are based on mutual respect," said the head of state. "We have built equal relations with all countries."
"Who do we hinder? Only those circles that want to dominate everywhere, want to see puppets everywhere and do not want to see decent politicians who rely on their people and are supported by the people," said President Ilham Aliyev.
However, the issue is that everything in Azerbaijan is resolved of the people's will, but not with the incitement of foreign circles, the president said.
"Azerbaijani people said "no" to all these nefarious intentions, supported the Azerbaijani authorities and today, this support is the main source of our power," said Aliyev.
"Unity between the people and authorities is a guarantor of stability in Azerbaijan and let those who cast dubious glances at our success know that," he said. "We openly look into the eyes of everyone, we express and will express our position and ensure Azerbaijan's independent life."
"Namely as a result of that, as a result of this policy, we succeeded to protect our country from these big troubles," said Aliyev.
"Look what is going on in Ukraine, the Middle East, Syria, Iraq, Libya and other countries. It can be said that the territorial integrity of these countries has already been violated and the situation there has become unmanageable."
"I don't know which measures should be taken after this in order to stabilize the situation in the Middle East, to restore peace," he said. "That's to say, positive trends are not seen."
The head of state noted that stability is maintained and development, normal life continues in Azerbaijan.
"We protected our country from these troubles, cut off the filthy hands extending towards us and will continue to protect our country and ensure the steady development of our nation," said the president.
