Taking into consideration the fight of international community against doping in sports, Azerbaijan has undertaken certain commitments and will strengthen the anti-doping fight, Azerbaijan’s Minister of Youth and Sports Azad Rahimov said during discussions on the draft of the new ‘Law on the Fight against Doping in Sports’.

The draft law was discussed Oct. 24 at a meeting of the Youth and Sports Committee of the Azerbaijani Parliament.

“The time requires that we bring our anti-doping activities in compliance with world standards,” said the minister.

“The draft law has to be perfect and it should make it possible to identify the use of doping by athletes in a timely manner. Therefore, it is necessary to prepare strict measures of doping control,” said Rahimov.

He said several fundamental issues must be reflected in the new law.

“Firstly, the law must meet international standards, and an independent national anti-doping agency should be established. It is necessary to prevent manipulation in sports and the pressure on athletes, and a material and technical basis for a timely detection of doping in athletes needs to be created,” said Rahimov. “We have to organize an effective fight against doping.”
