Iran's industry minister: Tehran, Ashgabat can double bilateral trade

Iran and Turkmenistan have the potential to increase their bilateral trade up to $10 billion per year, Iranian Industry, Mine, and Trade Minister Mohammadreza Nematzadeh said on Feb. 16, Iran's IRNA News Agency reported.

"The two countries' bilateral trade currently stands at $5 billion," he said.

"Iran plans to hold a special exhibition in Ashgabat in the next two week to show the countries capabilities," he said, adding that over 270 Iranian companies are scheduled to take part in the event.

He made the remarks at a meeting with Turkmen Foreign Minister Reshid Meredov during his visit on Sunday.

"Iran has an expertise in various fields and is ready to export technical and engineering services to neighboring countries," Nematzade added.

Meredov noted that enhancing bilateral ties with Iran is among his country's top priorities.

"Iranian companies can play an important role to boost the two countries' relations," he added.

During his visit to Tehran, Meredov held several meeting with high-ranking Iranian official including President Rouhani and Foreign Minister Zarif.
