Uzbek banks’ assets up in 2016

Assets of Uzbek commercial banks increased in 2016 by 23.3 percent as compared to 2015 to hit 80.4 trillion soums, Uzbekistan’s Central Bank said Feb. 2.

Total loan portfolio of the Uzbek banks increased last year by 25.1 percent and amounted to 53.4 trillion soums.

The loans allocated for implementation of investment projects increased by 19.6 percent to 12.2 trillion soums, while the loans allocated to small and private businesses rose by 31.4 percent to 15.9 trillion soums.

The deposits attracted by banks of Uzbekistan increased by 25.3 percent in 2016 to 44.6 trillion soums.

The aggregate bank capital increased during the year by 20.5 percent to 9.4 trillion soums.

Twenty-six commercial banks currently operate in Uzbekistan.
