Presidential hopeful Hassan Rohani said that it's unlikely that former presidents Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani and Mohammad Khatami will run for president, the Khabaronline News Website reported.

In recent week, there's been growing speculation about the possibility of two prominent reformist politicians running in the upcoming presidential election.

Rohani who's a member of the Expediency Council is seen as a close figure to both Hashemi and Khatami.

Asked whether Hashemi and Rafsanjani will give their support to him in the race, Rohani answered that it will be known in the coming weeks.

The eleventh election of the President of Iran is scheduled to be held on 14 June 2013 to elect the seventh President, successor of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is barred from standing for a third term. The elections will take place on the same day as local council elections.
