By Fatih Karimov - Trend:

Iran plans to export $5 billion worth of petrochemicals to Europe if the sanctions imposed on the country over its nuclear program are lifted.

Ahmad Mahdavi, the secretary of the Iranian petrochemical industry's employers union, said that before the imposition of the sanctions, Iran used to export some $2 billion of petrochemicals to Europe annually, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on April 6.

Iran is currently exporting petrochemical products in single consignments to some European countries, he added.

Mahdavi said that a special plan has been prepared to boost petrochemical exports to Europe in the wake of lifting the sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

In addition to boosting petrochemical exports, new lines of credit will be opened and new technologies will be imported, as well, he said.

Mohammad Hossein Peivandi, deputy director of the National Iranian Petrochemical Company, said on March 7 that Iran plans to triple its petrochemical output by the next 10 years.

He added that the country's petrochemical output will be increased to 180 million metric tons if the required financial resources are provided.

Marzieh Shahdaee, director of the National Iranian Petrochemical Company's plans, said on Feb. 24 that 15 new petrochemical units will be inaugurated by Iranian fiscal year 1395 (March 2016-March 2017).

She added that the new units will boost the country's petrochemical capacity by 8.5 million metric tons.
